And Rafella (my fellow homestay CLIC student) is heading home to Germany - she´s really looking forward to it, despite a sneaking suspicion that she´s going to have to go to the dentist on Monday to get an appointment to have her wisdom teeth taken out...! Soon after she recovers, she´s excitedly anticipating having a chance to chew on some hard, full flavoured dark German bread... Seriously, I´ve never seen someone so excited about the humble loaf, maybe this is a German thing... Helmet, care to comment? :)
Now that my luggage has joined me on my holiday, I´m enjoying my time here in Spain as I fully expected I would. Seville is lovely and there are a myriad of intriguing alleys and plazas to view and explore.
I guess losing my luggage made me realise that I love the adventure of going overseas, but the small or sometimes basic things you bring with you on a holiday - your clothes, toiletries, a few pieces of jewellry, some books etc, give you a base of yourself -a compact home away from home - that is a slight but ready cocoon from which you can venture out and discover a whole new world.
I´m having some trouble putting images onto my posts at the moment - having all your programs in Spanish makes you wary that you might end up deleting things...but I will try on Facebook, they´ll be fairly simple and unformatted, but I guess it´s better than nothing! Hope to have my usual swirling slideshow soon, as I´m sure there will be loads of pictures to ornament these posts :)
Yesterday, I visiting the magnificent Plaza de Espana, a reasonable walking distance to head to after a yummy lunch of swordfish and gazpacho courtesy of Senora Gordillo. Rafella has been there before, but didn´t mind taking me there, and it is an amazing sight, like something out of a movie set, the scale is massive and the closest I can think to compare it to is Vatican City in Rome.
Australia´s clean and at times functional architecture cannot compare to the ornamentation and eye for detail and design that Spain seems to what to show off at every turn. I think the Plaza is mainly an exhibition arena and with the hot weather, there was only a smattering of tourists braving the heat (40C at 5.30pm!) but Perth is no stranger to weather that can melt plastic, so I was happily clicking away at vista after buena vista, entranced by the romance of it all.
Tomorrow, I´m going to check out the nearby Estacion de Seville as I´m planning to catch a bus/train to Granada or Corbora next Saturday to begin the rest of my Spanish travels. I´ll also see if the Plaza de Torros (Seville´s bullfighting ring) is open to tour.
In the meantime, it´s eating ice-cream for dinner (the main meal here is a large lunch at around 2pm), walking everywhere and giving my camera a workout and occassionally indulging in some rebajas (sales).
Hasta luego!

Sounds amazing Jude!
ReplyDeleteCaught your photos on FB, they are great. Everything is so colourful. Reminded me a bit of Buenes Aires (alway have trouble spelling that), especially the plaza. The place you are staying at looks interesting. Love all the colourful art work. Jaymez
